Founded in 2019 by Michael Mahoney, Rot’s Bounty is a small, family-owned mushroom farm in Iowa City that seeks to provide delicious, fresh, and beautiful fungi to local grocers and restaurants.
“I was inspired to begin cultivating gourmet mushrooms in 2012 after a natural curiosity while walking the woods around Iowa City led me to the writings of renowned mycologist Paul Stamets.”
Rot’s Bounty uses no pesticides or nitrate fertilizer in their production process. They are as committed to the preservation and stewardship of the heartland as they are to growing tasty Fungi! With care and forethought, they believe that a plentiful harvest can be obtained without the use of harmful or unnatural chemicals.
“We grow oyster, lions mane, chestnut, pioppino and other wood-dwelling mushrooms in climate controlled conditions with equipment cobbled together from mostly recycled and re-purposed materials”
Rot’s Bounty relies on a small team of dedicated employees who enjoy the simplicity of mushroom tending. Their local-scale allows them to focus on delivering quality and freshness, while being part of their local community.
“Fungi are nature's recyclers, breaking down old organic material into soil and creating the opportunity for new life. There's so much waste in our world and the way we live, and mushroom cultivation is a way to generate value from it.”
Their mushrooms can be found at multiple Corridor restaurants, farmer's markets, and New Pioneer Co-Op locations!

“We like our sap to stay extremely fresh – if the sap clouds over it affects the flavor, so we like to keep our sap clear as water,”
