Alex Beaumier started Beau Laundry Co. in 2024 to solve problems he was facing with his own laundry.
He liked dryer balls, but found they made clothes static-y, and honestly didn’t do all that much. He has a passion for scents, but found the laundry aisle uninspired and repetitive. And dryer sheets while convenient, are not environmentally friendly. He decided to take matters into his own hands with the goal of creating an eco-friendly alternative to dryer sheets, that takes the static and wrinkles out, and also smells amazing.
After about a year of perfecting and finetuning, he has created his signature Scented & Softening Wool Dryer Balls!
Beau Laundry Co. Dryer balls don’t only get the wrinkles and static out, and smell amazing, but they also are coated in a plant-based softener – making the ball and the coating totally biodegradable.
“I love that my business is a form of self-expression. I used to think I wasn't artistic when I was younger because I couldn't draw, paint, or make sculptures. Now though, I think being artistic means putting your own spin on things you enjoy.”
That self-expression can be found in the wide variety of scents such as vanilla & chestnut, Slate River scent, or the Cedar Rapids special, which smells like – you guessed it – crunch berries. Alex’s favorite scent is the Cedar Rapids special, although he is also partial to the Mossy Woods scent.
Alex runs his business on what he calls the 3 “I” pillars: Integrity, Innovation, and Influence. He seeks to operate honestly and steadfastly (integrity), create products that don’t exist (innovation), and be a leader in his market (influencer).
Alex is also incredibly passionate about supporting fellow small business owners. His advice for aspiring entrepreneurs:
Keep your day job while you build your business on the side.
Expect hard work. You’ll work more than ever, find tasks to do, and over time, the work will grow and you'll get better at managing it.
The only real “hack” is doing the hard thing, consistently. Ignore the noise around hustle culture and productivity tricks.
“TLDR: Don't quit your job over a good idea and challenge yourself consistently, everyday. Rome wasn't built in a day.”
You can find Alex’s Scented & Softening Wool Dryer Balls at New Pi, and you can often find him at vendor markets and farmers markets in Cedar Rapids and Marion!
