Congressional Report on Heavy Metals in Baby Food

New Pioneer Food Co-op March 4 Category: Store News

Last month, a 2019 Congressional report that found a number of leading baby food manufacturers, including organic baby food brands, contained high levels of toxic heavy metals.

As a member of the National Co+op Grocers, we rely on their relationships with national food producers and we will be looking to them for guidance on this issue.

Before making any formal recommendation to their member Co-ops regarding these brands, NCG will be engaging with each of the brands to better understand their response to the report, the status of their current in-market products, and what measures, if any, the brands have taken to reduce the levels of these heavy metals to thresholds generally regarded as safe.
