In anticipation of the start of school this month, many organizations in the Corridor are conducting drives for school supplies. Here are just a few places you can donate.
Donations of school supplies for children in need will be accepted in Room 103 of the Educational Services Center (ESC), 1725 North Dodge Street in Iowa City, on August 15 and 16, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. These supplies will be passed on to each school’s Student and Family Advocate for distribution. For a complete list of most requested supplies, visit iowacityschools.org. Cash donations toward school supplies are being accepted on the ICCSD Foundation’s donation webpage. Please include the words school supplies in the comments section when you donate.
The City of North Liberty and community partners will distribute supplies to students at their Back 2 School Bash on Friday, August 17. Donations of new children’s shoes, backpacks, or school supplies can be dropped off in bins at one of the following collection points through Thursday, August 16.
In North Liberty:
Johnson County staff are organizing a school supply drive, working with local school districts to help reach children in need of extra support.
The Johnson County Family Drug Treatment Court is looking for donations of backpacks, school supplies, and fun family games for 8 families (14 children) in the Johnson County Area. They do not need it to be school specific. Please contact Anne Ventullo at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
School supplies can be dropped off at the main desk of the Cedar Rapids School District office at 2500 Edgewood Rd. NW between 7 AM and 4 PM Monday through Friday. Contact person is Emily Teeter.
In addition, Families Helping Families is looking for school supply donations for students in foster care. Information is available on their website, including drop-off sites and their office location.
