Two brothers started this Iowa distillery in 2010 with a rare and impressive commitment to supporting local producers: they source 100% of their grains from within 25 miles of the distillery and sort, clean, and mill them themselves! Other Iowa ingredients include honey from Preston; apple cider from Gravert’s Apple Orchard in Sabula; and strawberries from Pride of the Wapsi Berry Patch near Long Grove. As Iowa natives, Garrett and Ryan Burchett (some might know him as a former Quad Cities TV meteorologist) point out: “We're surrounded by some of the finest grain fields in the world. It only makes sense to make the finest spirits from that grain as well!” They work directly with the farmers rather than a middleman for a true “grain to glass” product that only a few other distillers in the country can claim.
The brothers studied the art of distillation with schooling in Chicago, Michigan, and Germany and now distill back in Iowa with their gorgeous handmade copper and steel still from Eislingen, Germany. In addition to exclusively local grains, they also use local coffee and local honey. With their spirits, nothing is outsourced: they’re truly home grown and hand-made the slow way in small batches, and bottled by hand: “Made for you, not for the masses.”
