Stay In, Go Out, Shake it All About

Iowans tend to hide inside this time of year. If hibernating's your style, set that soup pot a'boilin'. Seeking community? Invite a few friends over – or head out (and stop by your Co-op!). Your Co-op's the prime place to run into friends and neighbors, so stop by and shake things up.

Free Wine & Chocolate Tasting!

Join us 2-4PM Sun., Feb. 12, at New Pi Coralville for free samples of Valentine's favorites! Sample our fantastic chocolate-raspberry and lemon chiffon Valentine's cakes, a great variety of wines, & chocolates galore, all with live music by local violinist Natalie Brown. 10% off all wine + 15% off cases, & steak sales at all New Pi stores Feb. 12 too!

We've Lowered Our Prices!

We're always doing price comparisons with our competitors, and adjusting to make sure we're on par (or better), comparing (organic) apples to (organic) apples.

Just last week we lowered our prices on organic:
beets, celery & celeriac, collard greens, eggplant, ginger root, potatoes, tomatoes, apples, strawberries, limes, oranges, mangoes, carrots, dandelion greens, iceberg lettuce, leeks, mushrooms, and purple sweet potatoes... and that's just in the produce department!

Check out our price comparison of our everyday prices on Co-op Basics here >

Football Fan or Not, Are You Ready...

... for tasty snack ideas to kick off the Big Bowl weekend?
We’ve got you covered – and fumble free – no matter what team you’re on.
When it comes to the Big Game, food is all part of the experience
(we won’t tell anyone if you don't really watch the game ; )

All kinds of snackers are on sale right now, from our house-made dips like cult favorites Iowa Beer Cheese Dip (pick up your Catalyst newsletter at the store for a coupon, just till Feb. 6!), Smoked Salmon Dip, & Spinach Artichoke Dip, to our House-made Memphis Mop BBQ & Asian Style Buffalo Chicken Wings (cage free!), plus organic and house-made salsas, non-GMO chips, and even Grass Fed Jerky & 'Lil Smokies are on sale! These Game Day recipes for both meat eaters and vegans will set you up to impress with a snack spread where everyone wins.

Impress Your Loves

Whether you're celebrating Valentine's or Galentine's, we're here to make yours extra delicious! New Pi's making chocolate-raspberry, lemon chiffon, or vegan chocolate baby cakes, giant chocolate chip cookies (vegan options too), and cake truffles (all from scratch for you, of course!), plus hand-dipping organic strawberries in chocolate for treats that are sure to melt even the most curmudgeonly of hearts! We'll have it all in store Feb. 10-14, or sooner.

"We Americans spend less of our income on food – 6.7% – than almost any country on the planet.
Less than what we spent on food during the Great Depression.

... That bargain means that someone (a farmer or factory worker, not a CEO) or something (such as safety or environmental standards) was compromised. 'The best price isn't necessarily the cheapest one... because what is cheapest is usually the lowest quality.'"

Healthier for You, the Cows, & the Planet

It's Grass-Fed Beef Month at New Pi, with sales all month long!

Here at New Pi, we grind fresh grass fed beef daily right in our stores, and we're proud to partner with local Thousand Hills Cattle Co. for their commitment to the highest standards for flavor, safety, environmental effects, and humane raising methods. Your Co-op offers the best selection of grass fed beef in Eastern Iowa!
Meet local Thousand Hills Cattle Co. – they'll be sampling out their beef at the Co-op Feb. 23-25! – & learn the grass fed difference >

Why the Co-op's Different:

Food Co-ops are Unique, Special Places, Unlike Any Other

We were so sorry to see that Dubuque's food co-op is closing. As the article says, "The Dubuque Food Co-op is not alone in its struggle to remain open. Many co-ops across the country are also facing additional competition, from new entries into the national food market, to expanded natural food options at conventional grocers."
Unfortunately we are not immune – Your Food Co-op is also facing unprecedented competition at this time. Your business means the world to us –  your everyday decision to walk in our doors is what keeps them open.

Raise a Glass for a Great Cause!

Gather your friends for an affirming night in! New Pi and Best Case Wines are teaming up to support DVIP (Domestic Violence Intervention Program) with your help – Best Case Wines will donate $2 to DVIP for each bottle of Domaine La Bastide Syrah (reg. $10, on sale for $6.99) purchased through Feb. 15!

Mac & Cheese with Mushrooms & Bacon

Here's a mouth-wateringly indulgent recipe, perfectly paired with wines for every price range to take the edge off the February chill! "When I dream of perfect winter pairings, few things sound as profoundly delicious as Four Cheese Baked Mac and Cheese with Bacon and Mushrooms, accompanied by a youthful, fruit-forward Pinot Noir." Sponsoring PBS

Your Co-op is a proud supporter of PBS! Last month we sponsored a documentary on Rachel Carson (watch it here), and we're sponsoring their shows on Queen Elizabeth at 90 – A Family Tribute at 9PM on 2/13, Maya Angelou – And Still I Rise at 7PM on 2/21, and John Lewis – Get in the Way at 10PM on 2/24. Tune in!

Thank You from the Crisis Center

"The Crisis Center would like to thank The Co-op for being a tag location for this year's Project Holiday. Thanks to your help, 1724 families were able to register for holiday meals. We appreciate your support and could not have done it without you!"
