Team Leader, Grocery (Iowa City location)

This skills-based position oversees and directs all activities of our service-focused retail Grocery Department. The Team Leader will actively train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate staff to role model exceptional customer focused service while promoting New Pioneer’s brand and product lines.

Working Environment:

The Team Leader works in a retail grocery store and office environment.  This will involve regular and extended periods of time working with a variety of packaged and perishable products and inventory control. In addition to general computer, phone, and office requirements, there will be frequent periods of time in walk in coolers as well as bending, lifting, reaching, and merchandising to create and maintain displays on the retail floor. Extensive direct and interactive communication with vendors, customers, administrative support, and team members on the retail service floor will be a daily occurrence. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years in a retail grocery sales environment as a lead/manager, assistant manager, or senior department staff.
  • Outstanding merchandising skills with a demonstrated ability to meet or exceed New Pioneer product standards (selection and display).
  • Knowledge of organic, natural, and conventional product practices, organic certification and sustainability standards.
  • Supervisory experience— training, evaluating, directing, documenting.
  • Ability to read and understand financial statements in regards to margin and pricing.
  • Communications skills—good listener, clear instructions.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple demands.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments and work as a constructive team member.
  • Ability to stand and for extended periods of time lift and carry 5 - 25 pounds on a regular basis.

This leadership position requires a committed schedule to include opening, closing, weekend, and holiday shifts on a regular basis.

Team Leader, Retail Prepared Foods (Cedar Rapids location)

This developing Team Leader position oversees and directs the activities of the in store deli counter, finishing kitchen, and prepared foods displays and cases.  The Team Lead will actively train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate staff to role model exceptional customer service while promoting New Pioneer’s brand and product lines.

Working Environment:

The Team Leader works in a retail, kitchen, and office environment.  This position requires frequent periods of time in chilled storage environments as well as frequent use, and oversight of use, of commercial kitchen equipment including stoves, ovens, and slicers. Extensive direct and interactive communication with customers, prepared foods, production (bakery and central kitchen), administrative support, and team members on the retail service floor will be a daily occurrence. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a leadership position in a food service environment.
  • Ability to consistently project a friendly, open, and service oriented demeanor.
  • Enthusiasm for working in fast-paced creative environment.
  • Demonstrated retail customer service experience and skills.

Early Morning Baker (Iowa City location)

An early morning Baker at New Pioneer is focused on delivering a consistent and quality product made with trusted ingredients.  A Baker’s role is to convey, through our made from scratch cookies, muffins, rolls and pastries, our dedication to making every bite a special occasion.

Working Environment:

As Baker you will be working morning shifts starting as early as 3:00 a.m. You must be a self-starter who is comfortable in a retail, kitchen, and service environment. This position will require a high degree of manual dexterity and visual attention to detail. It will require frequent use and oversight of commercial bakery/kitchen equipment including mixers, stoves, and ovens. The workplace environment may also include frequent periods of time in walk in coolers and freezers. Direct and interactive communication with customers, prepared foods team members (bakery, kitchen, and service counter) and team members on the retail service floor will be a daily occurrence.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 6 months experience in a bakery or food service environment.
  • Ability to consistently project a friendly, open, and service oriented demeanor.
  • Ability to work with both hands in a fast-paced, creative environment in an efficient and productive manner.

Cake Decorator (Cedar Rapids location)

The primary focus of this skills based position is on delivering a consistent and quality product made to New Pioneer standards from trusted ingredients. Through thoughtful detail and artistry, New Pioneer Decorators and Bakers are dedicated to making every event and occasion special.

Working Environment:

As a Decorator you will be working in a retail, kitchen, and service environment. This position will require a high degree of manual dexterity and visual attention to detail. It will require frequent use and oversight of commercial bakery/kitchen equipment including mixers, stoves, and ovens. The workplace environment may also include frequent periods of time in walk in coolers and freezers. Direct and interactive communication with customers, prepared foods team members (bakery, kitchen, and service counter) and team members on the retail service floor will be a daily occurrence.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a bakery or food service environment with decorating responsibilities.

Service Team Shift Supervisor

This customer focused supervisory position works all aspects of our full service retail grocery and prepared foods stores. Supporting and overseeing team members to ensure outstanding customer focused service, demonstrated through product knowledge, fresh products preparation, and dedication to quality is our goal.

Working Environment:

The Service Team Shift Supervisor works in a retail, fresh products, prepared foods and service counter environment. Duties may include a combination of oversight and training of team members in cashiering, stocking merchandise, preparing and stocking fresh products for display and consumption in the prepared foods service areas and counters. In this team-based position, you will promote a high level of customer focused service for our shoppers and maintain a safe and productive environment for our employees.  Team oversight may also involve frequent periods of time working in walk in coolers and freezers. Direct and interactive communication with customers and team members on the retail service floor, and counter areas will be a daily occurrence.

Scratch Baker (North Liberty location)

As a Bread or Pastry Scratch Baker you will be working in a professional bakery and kitchen environment. This position may require frequent use and oversight of commercial bakery/kitchen equipment including large batch mixers, stoves, ovens, and proofers. This environment will also include frequent periods of time in walk in coolers and freezers. Direct and interactive communication with prepared foods team members (pastry and bread bakery and kitchen) daily and with retail facilities team members on occasion.

  • A minimum of 6 months of institutional or commercial bakery or food service experience.

Utility Kitchen Support Team (North Liberty location)

This task focused position works all utility and support aspects in our professional production kitchen and bakery. Outstanding teamwork demonstrated through a strong work ethic, efficient task performance, productivity and dedication to quality is our goal.

Working Environment:

This team member works in a utility/support role in a professional kitchen and bakery environment at our North Liberty production hub.  This position will involve frequent and extended periods of time, in a wet and steamy area, operating a commercial sanitation unit as well as general cleaning tasks. A kitchen support team member may also perform food preparation tasks requiring basis knife skills and the ability to follow recipes as well as packaging products for our retail locations. Schedules will include standing, walking, reaching and lifting on a frequent basis with occasional periods of time in walk in coolers and freezers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Verifiable work experience with excellent tenure and attendance
  • Restaurant, institution, or food service experience
  • Familiarity with professional kitchen or bakery equipment

The Utility Kitchen Clerk is a part time, hourly position requiring a minimum of 24 hours worked weekly.

Starting wage: $10.10/hr.

Retail - Store Service Team

Working Environment:

The Store Service Team member works in a retail and service counter environment. This could involve frequent and extended periods of time cashiering, bagging and carry out assistance, stocking dry goods, preparing and stocking produce and food products, as well as meat and seafood. Schedule tasks may also involve frequent periods of time working in walk in coolers and freezers. Direct and interactive communication with customers and team members on the retail service floor, and counter areas will be a daily occurrence.
