What is Fair Trade?
Fair trade is a certification that ensures that the workers who grew or made the product you are purchasing were paid a fair price for their labors. Farmers working under the fair trade model earn a living wage, are not subject to forced child labor, and gain premiums that can be reinvested into social, business, and community development. Environmental sustainability is also a tenant of fair trade practices. Fair trade eliminates the middleman between grower and buyer, so more of the profits from a product go directly to the farmer, empowering them to have more control of their own economic situations.
